Frequently asked questions

  • The number of clinical supervision hours you need depends on the requirements of your licensing board and the specific credentials you're pursuing. Generally, for licensure as a mental health professional, you might need anywhere from 100 to 3,000 hours of supervised experience, with specific minimums for direct supervision. For example, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) requirements in the state of Oregon include completing 2,400 hours of supervision, with at least 50 percent dedicated to direct client contact. It's important to check the exact requirements to ensure you're meeting all necessary criteria.

  • A clinical supervisor guides and supports therapists by providing oversight, feedback, and mentorship. They help ensure that therapists are delivering effective care, adhering to ethical standards, and continuing to grow in their professional skills.

  • The purpose of clinical supervision is to foster the professional development of therapists while ensuring that clients receive high-quality care. It's a space where therapists can reflect on their work, address challenges, and enhance their therapeutic abilities in a safe and supportive environment.

  • With my counseling clients, I approach the work from a psychodynamic perspective and tailor the methods I draw from to suit each individual’s needs and goals. I regularly use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well. To learn more about my approach to counseling, click here.
